GeneLink

GeneLink provides integrated data management and export functions to support genetic linkage and association studies of complex traits.

Key Features:

  • Database Implementation: Implemented on a Sybase relational database for centralized storage of genetic study data.
  • Data Integration: Integrates genotypic data with pedigree information and extensive phenotypic datasets.
  • Multi-Center Study Facilitation: Manages large-scale, multi-center genetic datasets to maintain consistency across collaborating centers.
  • Data Export and Compatibility: Exports chromosome-specific data files containing marker information in map order in formats compatible with downstream software such as GAS (Genetic Analysis System) and LINKAGE.
  • Phenotype Management: Stores an unlimited number of phenotypes, supporting both qualitative and quantitative trait data.
  • Quality Assurance Reports: Generates quality-assurance reports including genotyping success rates for specified DNA samples and heterozygosity rates for specific markers.

Scientific Applications:

  • Complex Trait Mapping: Supports large-scale genetic linkage and association studies aimed at identifying loci underlying complex traits.
  • Hereditary Prostate Cancer Studies: Has been applied in large-scale investigations of hereditary prostate cancer (HPC).

Methodology:

Implemented as a Sybase relational database that integrates genotypes, pedigrees, and phenotypes; exports chromosome-specific marker files in map order compatible with GAS and LINKAGE; and generates quality-assurance reports reporting genotyping success rates per DNA sample and heterozygosity rates per marker.
