Genometa
Genometa performs rapid alignment-based identification of bacterial and archaeal species and gene content from short-read high-throughput sequencing (e.g., Illumina) metagenomic datasets.
Key Features:
- Speed and Efficiency: Leverages modern short-read aligners to analyze millions of short reads in minutes, providing results much faster than BLAST.
- Accurate Species Identification: Identifies bacterial species at strain-level resolution and demonstrated high accuracy on simulated datasets, detecting 100% and 94% of included bacterial species with minimal false positives or negatives.
- Comparative Benchmarking: In comparisons against three other metagenomic algorithms on an Illumina human gut dataset, it attributed the most reads to bacteria at the species level, showing similar or superior accuracy.
