Gliome database

Gliome database catalogs 3,293 proteins secreted by glial cells across multiple species and provides annotated secretome data including signal peptides, SecretomeP values, functional annotations, Gene Ontology categories, differential expression profiles, disease associations, and interacting protein networks to support analysis of glia–neuron and glia–glia interactions.

Key Features:

  • Extensive Protein Collection: A repository of 3,293 proteins reported as secreted by glial cells across multiple species and diverse experimental conditions.
  • Comprehensive Annotations: Per-protein annotations include signal peptide information, SecretomeP values, functional annotations, and Gene Ontology categories.
  • Differential Expression Analysis: Information on differential expression patterns of glia-secreted proteins under various experimental conditions.
  • Disease Association Mapping: Cataloged associations between glial secreted proteins and specific diseases relevant to neurological disorders.
  • Interaction Networks: Data on interacting proteins to enable exploration of molecular interaction networks involving glial secretomes.

Scientific Applications:

  • Neurobiology Research: Supports investigation of glia–neuron and glia–glia interactions through annotated secreted protein data.
  • Neuropathology and Biomarker Discovery: Facilitates study of diagnostic and therapeutic potential of glia-secreted proteins in neurological disorders.
  • Integration of Computational and Experimental Data: Enables combining computational annotations with experimental datasets to advance understanding of glial functions and their roles in health and disease.

Methodology:

Computational methods explicitly include signal peptide prediction, SecretomeP scoring, functional annotation and Gene Ontology categorization, differential expression analysis, disease association mapping, and identification of interacting proteins.
