GlobDB
GlobDB aggregates 14 independent genomic catalogues to provide a comprehensive database of species-dereplicated microbial genomes with consistent taxonomy, annotations, and additional analysis resources.
Key Features:
- Species-dereplicated genome collection: GlobDB more than doubles the number of microbial species represented by genomes relative to the GTDB field standard genome taxonomy database.
- Integrated genomic catalogues: GlobDB integrates 14 genome resources that are not otherwise consolidated, using GTDB species representatives as the base and extending with 13 additional datasets.
- Consistent taxonomy and annotations: All genomes in GlobDB receive consistent taxonomy and annotations across the aggregated catalogues.
- Annual release schedule: GlobDB follows the annual GTDB release schedule, with release 226 containing 306,260 species-representative genomes compared to GTDB release 226's 143,614.
Scientific Applications:
- Microbial genome analysis: GlobDB supports genomic-era microbial genome analyses where individual (meta)genome studies generate thousands of microbial genomes.
- Metagenome-assembled genome studies: GlobDB incorporates assembled and binned metagenome assembled genomes (MAGs) that are not always deposited in INSDC databases.
Methodology:
GlobDB uses GTDB species representatives as the base dataset and extends this with 13 additional independent genomic catalogues.
