GlobPlotter
GlobPlotter predicts intrinsic protein disorder and globularity by plotting per-residue sequence propensities to identify disordered regions, inter-domain segments, and ordered/globular tendencies for structural and functional analysis.
Key Features:
- Intrinsic Protein Disorder Prediction: Identifies disordered regions within protein sequences, including short linear peptide motifs such as SH3-binding sites.
- Domain and Globularity Analysis: Distinguishes ordered/globular tendencies from non-globular sequence segments and highlights apparently ordered regions lacking recognized domains.
- Identification of Inter-Domain Segments: Detects inter-domain segments that contain linear motifs and potential linker regions by plotting sequence propensities.
- Pipeline Interface - GlobPipe: Provides GlobPipe, a pipeline interface for whole proteome analysis.
- Generic Infrastructure for Propensity Display: Offers a graphical infrastructure for displaying arbitrary per-residue propensities across proteins.
Scientific Applications:
- Construct Design for Structural Biology: Assists design of constructs corresponding to globular proteins by identifying ordered N- or C-terminal extensions adjacent to known domains.
- Domain Boundary Refinement: Supports domain hunting by discriminating ordered domains from disordered regions.
- Proteome-wide Disorder Profiling: Enables whole-proteome analyses of disorder and globularity tendencies via GlobPipe.
- Functional Genomics and Drug Discovery: Informs studies in functional genomics, drug discovery, and elucidation of biological pathways by revealing disorder, linear motifs, and structural context.
Methodology:
Plots per-residue sequence propensities, identifies disordered regions and order/globularity tendencies, detects inter-domain segments containing linear motifs, provides a GlobPipe pipeline for whole proteome analysis, and graphically displays arbitrary propensities within proteins.
