GO FEAT

GO FEAT performs functional annotation and enrichment analysis of genomic and transcriptomic sequences by mapping gene products to Gene Ontology (GO) terms using sequence homology searches.

Key Features:

  • Functional annotation and enrichment: Maps gene products to Gene Ontology (GO) terms covering molecular function, cellular component, and biological process and performs functional enrichment analysis.
  • Sequence homology search: Aligns input sequences against known databases using sequence homology searches to infer functions based on evolutionary relationships.
  • Customizable analysis: Allows parameterization of annotation and enrichment procedures to accommodate specific research requirements.
  • Visualization and output: Produces analytic annotation lists and graphical representations of enrichment results.

Scientific Applications:

  • Functional interpretation of genomic and transcriptomic data: Assigns GO-based functional annotations to sequences from genomic and transcriptomic datasets to aid biological interpretation.
  • Biomarker and candidate gene identification: Supports identification of potential biomarkers and candidate genes through annotated functions and enrichment results.
  • Gene–disease association exploration: Facilitates exploration of gene–disease associations by linking gene products to biological processes and functions.
  • High-throughput sequence analysis: Enables rapid annotation and enrichment analysis for large-scale sequencing datasets.

Methodology:

Sequence homology searches align input sequences against known databases to infer function, mapping gene products to Gene Ontology (GO) terms for molecular function, cellular component, and biological process, followed by functional enrichment analysis and generation of analytic lists and graphical outputs.
