HGD
HGD provides an integrated database of homologous genes across multiple species to enable cross-species homology mapping and multi-omics annotation for evolutionary and comparative genomics analyses.
Key Features:
- Extensive Homologous Pair Repository: HGD contains 112,383,644 homologous gene pairs across 37 species (19 animals, 16 plants, 2 microorganisms).
- Multi-Omics Integration: The database integrates traits, variants, expression, and Gene Ontology (GO) annotations from public resources, covering 16,909, 276,670, 398,573, and 536,852 homologs, respectively.
- Comprehensive Annotation Services: HGD harmonizes diverse annotations and provides unified identifiers to consolidate multi-omics information across homologs.
Scientific Applications:
- Evolutionary biology: Infer genes' evolutionary processes and relationships through shared ancestry using homologous pairs.
- Comparative genomics: Explore evolutionary conservation and divergence across species via cross-species homology mappings.
- Functional genomics: Transfer functional annotations and GO terms across homologs to support gene function analyses.
- Trait and variant analysis: Map traits and genetic variants across species through homologous gene relationships.
Methodology:
Integrates data from multiple sources, harmonizes different methods of inferring homologous relationships, provides consistent identifiers, and enables mapping of homology results.
