hipathia

Hipathia is a method of modeling cell signaling using biological knowledge of signal transduction. The tool addresses the most significant challenge that precision medicine faces: understanding the aspects of cell function that account for disease or drug action mechanisms.

The method recodes individual gene expression values (and/or gene mutations) into accurate measurements of changes in the activity of signaling circuits. This ultimately constitutes high-throughput estimations of cell functionalities caused by gene activity within the pathway. An extensive analysis of 5640 patients from 12 different cancer types demonstrates the method's accuracy.

One of the most significant benefits of using Hipathia is that it allows for estimating measurements at both cohort levels and personalized for individual patients. This is particularly useful in case/control comparisons and assessing therapeutic interventions. The circuit activity measurements have a high diagnostic value and can also be related to relevant disease outcomes such as survival.
