HippoMaps Toolbox
HippoMaps Toolbox enables mapping and contextualization of hippocampal data in the human brain through hippocampal unfolding and shape intrinsic registration for cross-subject and cross-modal data aggregation.
Key Features:
- Hippocampal Unfolding: A novel approach for flattening the 3D hippocampal surface to facilitate data visualization and analysis across subjects and modalities.
- Shape Intrinsic Registration: Registration capabilities based on hippocampal shape geometry that enable aggregation of data across different subjects and imaging modalities.
- Spatial Map Association Analysis: Validated tools for statistical association of spatial maps in the hippocampus with correction for spatial autocorrelation.
- Multimodal Data Repository: Initialized repository containing 3D post-mortem histology, ex-vivo 9.4 Tesla MRI, in-vivo structural MRI and resting-state functional MRI (rsfMRI) at 3 and 7 Tesla, and intracranial encephalography (iEEG) recordings in epilepsy patients.
Scientific Applications:
- Cross-Modal Data Integration: Aggregation and comparison of hippocampal data across diverse imaging modalities and spatial scales including histology, MRI, and electrophysiology.
- Structure-Function Relationships: Investigation of how hippocampal microarchitecture and macroscale functional network organization relate to cognitive and affective processes in health and disease.
- Clinical and Basic Research: Applications across clinical contexts such as epilepsy and common disorders where the hippocampus is highly susceptible to pathology, as well as fundamental neuroscience research.
Methodology:
HippoMaps utilizes hippocampal unfolding and shape intrinsic registration for cross-subject and cross-modal data aggregation, with spatial map association analysis that corrects for autocorrelation.
