KNHANES Biobank
KNHANES Biobank provides access to biospecimens and genotyping data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for public health research.
Key Features:
- Biospecimen Repository: The biobank provides serum, plasma, extracted DNA, and urine specimens collected from KNHANES participants.
- Genotyping Data: KoreanChip genotyping data comprising > 833,000 genetic markers for approximately 19,300 participants is available.
- Epidemiological Data Linkage: The biobank links biospecimens with vast epidemiological data from the KNHANES survey.
- Sample Scale: Biospecimens from a total of 95,455 participants have been deposited, with approximately 35,500 biospecimens available as of December 2024.
Scientific Applications:
- Public Health Research: The biobank supports research related to various public health concerns based on the general Korean population.
- Population Genetics: KoreanChip genotyping data enables genetic association studies and population-level genomic analysis.
- Health Policy Evidence: The linked survey and biospecimen data provide evidence for health policy and health interest statistics.
Methodology:
Blood samples are collected from people aged 10 years or older, and urine samples are collected from people aged 6 years or older during KNHANES health examinations. Genotyping is performed using the KoreanChip array. Researchers access resources through the HuBIS_Desk online platform with official project approval.
