KAIKObase

KAIKObase provides integrated genomic resources for the domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori, consolidating genome assemblies, gene sets, genetic maps, and annotations to support silkworm biology and genetics research.

Key Features:

  • Genome assemblies: Incorporates the original sequencing from the International Silkworm Genome Consortium (2008) and a significant updated silkworm genome assembly released in 2019.
  • Gene sets and gene models: Stores gene sets and gene models, with the 2019 update increasing both the number and length of gene models.
  • Genetic maps: Includes genetic maps relevant to Bombyx mori research.
  • Genome annotations: Provides detailed genome annotations integrated with assemblies and gene models.
  • Data integration and analysis: Generates, integrates, and analyzes genomic datasets from multiple assembly versions.
  • Known limitations: Documents issues from the original assembly such as erroneous predicted genes caused by misassembly and gaps in the genomic data.

Scientific Applications:

  • Silkworm genomics: Supports genetic and genomic studies of Bombyx mori.
  • Insect comparative genomics: Serves as a resource for broader insect research and cross-species genomic comparisons.
  • Gene model curation: Facilitates correction and extension of gene models following the 2019 assembly improvements.

Methodology:

Integrates and analyzes genome assemblies, gene sets, genetic maps, and genome annotations derived from the 2008 International Silkworm Genome Consortium sequencing project and the 2019 silkworm genome assembly update.
