liputils

liputils extracts fatty acid moieties from molecular lipids and parses RefMet-compliant and vendor annotation outputs from chromatographic separations coupled to high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry to support structural analysis of lipid components.

Key Features:

  • Fatty Acid Moiety Extraction: Extracts fatty acid moieties from individual molecular lipid annotations to enable structural analysis.
  • Format Agnosticism: Parses RefMet-compliant textual identifiers and annotations from various commercially available services without requiring a specific input format.
  • Mass Spectrometry Data Processing: Processes data generated from chromatographic separations coupled to high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry.
  • Signal Processing and Peak Analysis: Implements signal processing, automated cleaning, and peak analysis to streamline compound identification in complex lipidomic datasets.
  • High-Throughput Dataset Handling: Handles complex lipidomic datasets containing hundreds to thousands of individual molecular species.

Scientific Applications:

  • Structural Lipid Characterization: Supports elucidation of fatty acid composition and structural features of complex lipids.
  • Lipidomics of Biological Samples: Enables analysis of lipid composition in cells, tissues, and organisms from mass spectrometry-derived annotations.
  • Biochemical and Biomedical Research: Facilitates studies ranging from basic biochemical investigations to applied biomedical lipidomics.

Methodology:

Implements signal processing tailored for mass spectrometry data, automated cleaning and peak analysis, extraction of fatty acid moieties from molecular lipid annotations, and parsing of RefMet-compliant and vendor annotation outputs.
