M2IA

M2IA integrates microbiome (16S rRNA) and metabolome (fecal metabolites) datasets to identify associations between microbial taxa, metabolites, and metabolic pathways.

Key Features:

  • Automated Data Integration Pipeline: Provides a streamlined pipeline for integrating microbiome and metabolome data from preprocessing through functional analysis.
  • Comprehensive Statistical Analysis: Implements univariate and multivariate statistical methods and functional network analysis to detect associations and patterns.
  • Detailed Reporting: Generates HTML-based summary reports with tables and high-resolution figures available for download.
  • Biological Interpretation Capabilities: Performs pathway-level and functional analyses to interpret microbiome–metabolome interactions.

Scientific Applications:

  • TwinsUK cohort analysis: Applied to 16S rRNA microbiome data from 786 individuals and 1,116 fecal metabolites to identify associations between metabolic pathways and obesity, implicating benzoate degradation and the phosphotransferase system.

Methodology:

M2IA performs data preprocessing (cleaning and preparation), univariate and multivariate statistical analyses, and functional network analysis.
