MAGinator
MAGinator profiles shotgun metagenomics datasets to enable accurate identification of subspecies-level microbes and reconstruction of phylogenetic relationships between metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs).
Key Features:
- De novo subspecies identification: MAGinator identifies subspecies-level microbes directly from metagenomic data without relying on reference databases.
- Accurate abundance estimation: MAGinator provides accurate abundance estimates of metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs).
- Integrated gene- and contig-based analysis: MAGinator utilises information from both gene- and contig-based methods to yield insight into taxonomic profiles and the origin of genes and genetic content.
- Functional profiling by host organism: MAGinator infers the functional content of each sample by assigning genetic content to its host organism.
- Phylogenetic reconstruction: MAGinator reconstructs phylogenetic relationships between MAGs to provide a framework for identifying clade-level differences.
Scientific Applications:
- Microbiome characterisation: MAGinator enables comprehensive understanding of microbial composition in microbiome studies.
- Strain-level phylogenetic analysis: MAGinator reconstructs strain-level phylogenies of de novo assembled MAGs to elucidate evolutionary relationships between microbes.
- Functional association with host health: MAGinator supports investigation of associations between the microbiome and human health through phylogenetic and functional profiling of assembled genomes.
Methodology:
MAGinator utilises information from both gene- and contig-based methods for taxonomic profiling and inference of functional content by host organism.
