Maize genetics and genomics database (MaizeGDB)
Maize genetics and genomics database (MaizeGDB) provides centralized access to genetic, genomic, sequence, gene product, and functional characterization data for Zea mays ssp. mays to support genetic and genomic research.
Key Features:
- Data integration: Integrates genetic, genomic, sequence, gene product, functional characterization data and literature references, including assemblies for B73, Mo17, and Palomero Toluqueño.
- Genome browser: Implements a genome browser for graphical representation and navigation of maize genome sequences.
- POPcorn portal and BLAST: Provides the POPcorn portal enabling BLAST similarity searches across datasets from independent maize projects.
- Community-driven annotation: Supports community annotation projects in collaboration with PlantGDB to curate and prioritize genome annotations.
Scientific Applications:
- Genetic and trait analysis: Enables mapping, marker development, and trait studies using integrated genetic and sequence data for Zea mays ssp. mays.
- Comparative genomics: Supports sequence comparison and comparative analyses across B73, Mo17, Palomero Toluqueño and external datasets via POPcorn and BLAST.
- Genome annotation and curation: Facilitates community-based annotation and curation workflows in collaboration with PlantGDB.
- Functional characterization: Supports investigation of gene products and functional annotations linked to literature references.
Methodology:
Implements a genome browser, provides BLAST similarity searches via the POPcorn portal, and facilitates community-driven annotation in collaboration with PlantGDB.
