MarFERReT

MarFERReT provides a curated reference library of functional gene and protein sequences from marine microbial eukaryotes to improve taxonomic and functional annotation of metatranscriptomes.

• Curated functional gene collection: A library of curated functional gene and protein sequences derived from marine eukaryotes for environmental transcript annotation.
• Dataset compilation and validation: Compiled 902 publicly accessible marine eukaryote genomes and transcriptomes that were assessed for sequence quality and cross-contamination, resulting in 800 validated entries in version 1.1.
• Taxonomic coverage: Sequences represent 453 species- and strain-level taxa.
• Sequence volume: Contains nearly 28 million protein sequences.
• Standardized annotations: Each entry is annotated with NCBI and PR² Taxonomy identifiers and Pfam functional annotations.
• Target data type: Specifically supports taxonomic and functional annotation of marine microbial eukaryote metatranscriptomes and environmental transcripts.

Methodology:

Compiled 902 public marine eukaryote genomes and transcriptomes, conducted sequence quality assessment and cross-contamination screening, selected 800 validated entries for version 1.1, and annotated entries with NCBI and PR² Taxonomy identifiers and Pfam functional annotations.
