MariClus

MariClus enables mining and analysis of biosynthetic gene clusters from marine prokaryotes and links predicted molecules to public databases to support discovery of marine natural products.

Key Features:

  • Comprehensive Database: Contains biosynthetic gene clusters and predicted molecules from over 500 marine-related prokaryotes.
  • Integration of Public Data Sources: Integrates genomic and molecule data from GenBank, MIBiG, and PubChem.
  • antiSMASH-based Genome Mining: Employs antiSMASH for identification and characterization of biosynthetic gene clusters.
  • Genome Mining and Molecule Prediction: Performs genome mining to predict molecules associated with identified biosynthetic gene clusters.

Scientific Applications:

  • Natural Product Discovery: Facilitates identification of bioactive compounds from marine microbes for drug discovery.
  • Biosynthetic Pathway Characterization: Supports analysis and characterization of biosynthetic pathways in marine microorganisms.
  • Comparative BGC Diversity Analysis: Enables exploration and comparison of biosynthetic gene cluster diversity across marine prokaryotes.

Methodology:

Genomic data from public sources are integrated and analyzed with antiSMASH and genome-mining technologies, and linked to MIBiG and PubChem for predicted molecule annotation.
