MATSAS

MATSAS analyzes small-angle scattering (SAS) data from X-ray and neutron sources to characterize porous media and particulate structures using polydisperse spherical models.

Key Features:

  • MATLAB script-based: Implemented as a script-based MATLAB program for computational analysis of SAS data.
  • Input formats: Imports raw datasets from .xls(x) and .csv files.
  • SAS integration: Integrates small-angle and very small angle scattering data within a single analysis.
  • Background subtraction: Performs subtraction of sample background noise from scattering data.
  • Visualization: Presents processed scattering curves in log-log plots for interpretation of scattering profiles.
  • Modeling: Implements the polydisperse spherical (PDSP) model for structural characterization of scatterers.
  • Pore and surface metrics: Determines specific surface area (SSA), porosity (Φ), and distributions of differential and logarithmic differential pore areas and volumes.
  • Fractal analysis: Calculates pore fractal dimension (D_p) and surface fractal dimension (D_s).
  • Batch processing and export: Supports batch processing of multiple samples and exports results to .xlsx and .csv files with individual spreadsheets per sample.

Scientific Applications:

  • Sedimentary rock analysis: Characterizes pore structure, SSA, porosity, and fractal dimensions in sedimentary rocks.
  • Porous media characterization: Quantifies pore size distributions and surface properties in a broad range of porous systems.
  • Biological macromolecules: Analyzes SAS profiles from biological macromolecules to derive structural information.
  • Composite nanomaterials: Evaluates scattering signatures and structural heterogeneity in composite nanomaterials.
  • Polymers: Assesses polymer morphology and porosity-related scattering features.

Methodology:

Script-based MATLAB program imports .xls(x)/.csv SAS datasets, integrates small-angle and very small angle scattering data, subtracts sample background, presents scattering curves in log-log plots, fits the polydisperse spherical (PDSP) model to obtain SSA and porosity (Φ), computes differential and logarithmic differential pore area/volume distributions and pore/surface fractal dimensions (D_p, D_s), supports batch processing, and exports results to .xlsx and .csv with individual spreadsheets per sample.
