mBodyMap

mBodyMap provides a curated database of human-associated microbiome sequencing data to support analysis of microbial composition and associations with health and disease.

Key Features:

  • Data Curation and Annotation: Employs state-of-the-art toolsets for consistent annotation of microbial contents and includes manual curation of host metadata.
  • Organizational Structure: Organizes samples by associated human diseases and 22 body sites to enable cross-dataset integration and comparison.
  • Comprehensive Data Repository: Contains 63,148 runs comprising 14,401 metagenomes and 48,747 amplicons across 136 projects and 56 human diseases.
  • Pre-computed Metrics: Provides pre-computed abundances and prevalence metrics for 6,247 species grouped into 1,645 genera, stratified by body site and disease.

Scientific Applications:

  • Microbial Association Discovery: Supports identification of microbes associated with specific diseases by comparing abundances and prevalence across samples.
  • Cross–Body-Site Comparison: Enables comparison of microbial composition across 22 human body sites to investigate site-specific community patterns.
  • Translational Research Support: Facilitates investigations into microbial roles in pathogenesis, diagnostic biomarker discovery, and potential therapeutic interventions.

Methodology:

Annotation is performed with state-of-the-art toolsets, host metadata are manually curated, and pre-computed abundance and prevalence metrics are calculated stratified by body site and disease.
