MedMiner

MedMiner extracts, filters, and organizes gene-centered information from GeneCards and PubMed to support interpretation of cDNA microarray and oligonucleotide chip gene expression experiments.

Key Features:

  • Data Filtering and Organization: Filters and organizes textual and structured information retrieved from GeneCards and PubMed.
  • Gene Selection: Facilitates selection of genes from cDNA microarray and oligonucleotide chip datasets using gene annotations from GeneCards.
  • PubMed Search Integration: Searches PubMed abstracts using known gene synonyms and other user-defined parameters.
  • Relational Keyword Grouping: Groups PubMed search results based on relational keywords.

Scientific Applications:

  • Gene expression analysis: Supports interpretation of cDNA microarray and oligonucleotide chip experiments by integrating literature and gene annotation data.
  • Identification of genetic interactions and pathways: Aids identification of significant genetic interactions and pathways through combined gene information and PubMed evidence.
  • Molecular genetics and pharmacology research: Applies to analyses involving molecular genetic or pharmacological information by aggregating relevant gene-centric and literature data.

Methodology:

Retrieves structured gene data from GeneCards and textual abstracts from PubMed; searches PubMed using gene synonyms and user-defined parameters; filters and organizes the retrieved information; and groups PubMed results by relational keywords.
