Megan Server

Megan Server provides server-based access to precomputed MEGAN files via a RESTful API to enable interactive analysis and remote exploration of large-scale metagenomic datasets.

Key Features:

  • Server-Based Data Access: Hosts and serves large metagenomic projects on a server to enable analysis of datasets without transferring raw files to clients.
  • Interactive Analysis: Enables interactive exploration and dynamic comparison of datasets within the MEGAN framework.
  • RESTful API Integration: Exposes a RESTful API to provide programmatic access to precomputed MEGAN files.
  • Scalability and Efficiency: Supports handling of extensive datasets (including projects of hundreds of gigabytes) by performing computational preprocessing and analysis on the server.

Scientific Applications:

  • Comparative Metagenomics: Comparison of multiple metagenomic datasets to identify differences or similarities in microbial community composition across environments.
  • Functional Analysis: Analysis of functional profiles of microbial communities to characterize metabolic capabilities present in samples.
  • Taxonomic Profiling: Detailed taxonomic classification and profiling of organisms within metagenomic samples.

Methodology:

Serves precomputed MEGAN files via a RESTful API and integrates with existing MEGAN functionalities to perform server-side preprocessing and enable interactive analysis.
