MERITS

MERITS provides an integrated database of Mycobacterial PE/PPE proteins to support analysis of their sequence-structure-function relationships and roles in virulence and immune modulation.

Key Features:

  • Extensive Database: Hosts 22,353 non-redundant PE/PPE proteins covering diverse Mycobacterium sequences.
  • Detailed Annotations: Includes physicochemical properties, subcellular localization, post-translational modification sites, protein functions, and assessments of antigenicity, toxicity, and allergenicity.
  • Structural Information: Provides secondary and tertiary structure data for PE/PPE proteins.
  • Integration of Structural and Functional Data: Combines structural biology information with functional annotations to enable sequence-structure-functional analyses.

Scientific Applications:

  • Vaccine Development: Supports identification and characterization of antigenic PE/PPE proteins for vaccine target selection.
  • Diagnostic Tools: Informs discovery of protein-based markers and diagnostic candidates for mycobacterial infections.
  • Therapeutic Strategies: Enables analysis of virulence factors and immune modulation mechanisms to guide targeted therapy research.

Methodology:

Data were curated from reliable sources and structural biology information was integrated with functional annotations to support bioinformatics analyses.
