Metavisitor

Metavisitor assembles and detects viral genomes from deep sequencing datasets to identify and reconstruct viruses from DNA, RNA, and small RNA sequencing across a range of read lengths.

Key Features:

  • Modular workflows and Galaxy integration: A suite of modular bioinformatic tools and workflows integrated within the Galaxy framework for configurable computational analyses.
  • Versatile data compatibility: Supports DNA, RNA, and small RNA sequencing data across a range of read lengths.
  • De novo and guided assembly: Employs both de novo and guided assembly strategies to reconstruct viral genomes from sequencing reads.
  • Rapid diagnostic and discovery capability: Enables rapid identification of known viruses and the discovery of novel viral entities across diverse organisms.

Scientific Applications:

  • Virology: Reconstruction of viral genomes for characterization and comparative analyses.
  • Epidemiology: Identification of viral agents from outbreak-associated sequencing datasets.
  • Clinical diagnostics: Detection and assembly of viral genomes for diagnostic investigation of patient samples.
  • Viral discovery and evolution: Discovery of novel viruses and study of viral evolution from deep sequencing data.

Methodology:

Detection and assembly of viral genomes from deep sequencing datasets using modular workflows within the Galaxy framework, employing de novo and guided assembly approaches.
