MiceDEGdb
MiceDEGdb compiles published RNA-seq data on differentially expressed genes from mouse strains used as models for studying age-related human diseases, with curated cross-species annotations linking mouse DEGs to same-direction expression changes in human homologs.
Key Features:
- Differential Expression Data Repository: Contains 21,754 DEGs representing 9,769 unique Mus musculus genes from 25 RNA-seq experiments.
- Multi-tissue Coverage: Integrates gene expression data from eight tissues including gum, bone, kidney, right ventricle, aortic arch, hippocampus, skeletal muscle and uterus.
- Multiple Mouse Strain Integration: Covers six genetic mouse strains: C57BL/6J, Ren1cCre|ZsGreen, B6.129S7(Cg)-Polgtm1Prol/J, BPN/3J, BPH/2J and Kunming.
- Human Disease Model Annotation: Documents mouse models for eight human diseases: hypertension, periodontal disease, bone fragility, renal fibrosis, smooth muscle remodeling, heart failure and circadian rhythm disorder.
- Cross-species Homolog Annotation: Features curated annotation of mouse DEGs using independent biomedical publications reporting same-direction expression changes in human homologs in patients versus healthy controls.
- Literature-linked Disease Annotations: Contains 85,092 annotations for 318 human genes across 895 diseases, referenced by 912 PubMed IDs.
Scientific Applications:
- Preclinical Research Support: Facilitates assessment of therapeutic approaches and candidate medicine evaluation in mouse models before clinical trials.
- Comparative Transcriptomics: Enables cross-species comparison of gene expression changes between mouse disease models and human patients.
- Age-related Disease Research: Supports studies on pathophysiological mechanisms of hypertension, periodontal disease, bone fragility, renal fibrosis, smooth muscle remodeling, heart failure and circadian rhythm disorder.
- Translational Medicine: Assists geneticists, molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, clinicians, pharmacologists and genetic advisors in personalized medicine.
Methodology:
Data were collected from 10 original articles reporting 25 RNA-seq experiments. Curated annotation of mouse DEGs was performed using independent biomedical publications about same-direction changes in expression levels of human homologs in patients relative to healthy volunteers.
