miRAnno
miRAnno annotates microRNA function by mapping miRNAs onto a molecular interaction network and quantifying their associations with biological pathways using Random Walks with Restart.
Key Features:
- Comprehensive Molecular Interaction Network: Leverages a detailed molecular interaction network to assess relationships between miRNAs and biological pathways.
- Random Walks with Restart Algorithm: Uses Random Walks with Restart to quantify association strength between miRNAs and individual pathways, providing an alternative to traditional enrichment analyses.
- Higher Signal-to-Noise Ratio: Independent validation studies report improved signal-to-noise ratio relative to standard methods, enhancing the reliability of identified pathway associations.
Scientific Applications:
- miRNA functional annotation: Enables functional annotation of miRNAs by linking them to pathway-level processes.
- Pathway-centric analysis of cellular processes and disease mechanisms: Supports analyses to elucidate roles of miRNAs in cellular processes and disease mechanisms by improving pathway association accuracy.
Methodology:
Applies a network-based approach with Random Walks with Restart to measure and quantify miRNA–pathway associations.
