MIRIAM Resources
MIRIAM Resources provides perennial, location-independent identifiers and namespace-linked metadata to generate and resolve Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs), MIRIAM Uniform Resource Names (URNs), and Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) for unambiguous referencing of biomedical data collections and model annotations.
Key Features:
- Namespace catalogue: A comprehensive catalogue of data collections with individual namespaces assigned to each collection.
- Identifier generation: Generation of URIs and MIRIAM URNs to uniquely identify records within collections.
- Metadata recording: Extensive metadata documentation recorded for each namespace.
- Resolution services: Resolution of MIRIAM URNs into actionable data points via registry resolution services.
- Identifiers.org resolvable URLs: Provision of directly resolvable identifiers as URLs through Identifiers.org.
- Parallel identification scheme: A parallel identification scheme that complements existing identifiers to increase flexibility and utility.
- Registry software infrastructure: Software infrastructure to support and maintain the growing set of data collections and namespaces.
Scientific Applications:
- Model annotation: Providing persistent identifiers and metadata for the annotation of computational and biological models.
- Persistent data referencing: Enabling unambiguous, long-term referencing of biomedical entities across studies and resources.
- Data integration and interoperability: Supporting integration and interoperability across databases and biomedical resources via standardized identifiers and namespaces.
- Identifier resolution and verification: Resolving identifiers to access and verify data entities across collections.
Methodology:
Assign individual namespaces with associated metadata for each data collection; generate URIs and MIRIAM URNs for records; resolve URNs into data via resolution services; provide directly resolvable URLs through Identifiers.org; maintain a parallel identification scheme and supporting registry software infrastructure.
