MoveApps

MoveApps enables analysis of bio-logging and animal tracking datasets to support movement ecology and wildlife management research.

Key Features:

  • Modular App-based Workflows: Analysis is structured as workflows composed of modular analysis components (Apps) that can be assembled to process tracking data.
  • Programming Language Support: Apps are implemented using programming languages such as R.
  • Containerized Execution: Apps are compiled and executed within Docker containers.
  • Reproducibility and Open Source: Each App's source code is publicly available to support reproducibility and transparency.
  • Serverless Cloud Computing: The platform uses a serverless cloud computing architecture for execution and long-term cross-system reproducibility.
  • Integration with Movebank: Workflows integrate with the Movebank ecosystem and the Movebank Data Repository.
  • DOI Publication of Workflows: Workflows can be shared and archived with Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs).

Scientific Applications:

  • Movement ecology analyses: Processing and interpretation of bio-logging and animal tracking datasets for movement ecology research.
  • Wildlife management monitoring: Generating reports and summaries for active tag deployments relevant to wildlife managers.
  • Migration segmentation and mapping: Segmenting and mapping migratory movements of animals from tracking data.

Methodology:

Workflows are composed of modular Apps implemented in R, with Apps compiled and executed in Docker containers within a serverless cloud computing environment, integrated with the Movebank Data Repository and supporting DOI-based workflow publication.
