Mview API (EBI)

MView API (EBI) transforms sequence database search results and existing multiple sequence alignments into colored, stacked multiple alignments aligned against a query sequence to facilitate interpretation of sequence relationships and similarities.

Key Features:

  • Conversion Capability: Converts results from sequence database searches such as BLAST and FASTA or existing multiple alignment formats including MSF, PIR, and CLUSTAL into stacked multiple alignment displays.
  • HTML Output: Produces output as HTML documents for rendering alignments in web-compatible format.
  • Color Coding: Applies optional HTML markup to control coloring of sequences within alignments to highlight residues or features.
  • Web Page Layout Control: Provides options to customize the layout of the generated HTML pages for alignment presentation.

Scientific Applications:

  • Comparative Genomics: Visualizes alignments to identify conserved regions across species or within gene families.
  • Protein Structure Prediction: Reveals sequence similarities and differences useful for inferring structural motifs and functional domains.
  • Evolutionary Studies: Highlights sequence variation and conservation patterns to support analysis of evolutionary relationships.

Methodology:

Takes input from sequence database searches (e.g., BLAST, FASTA) or pre-existing alignments (e.g., MSF, PIR, CLUSTAL), processes the data into colored, stacked alignments aligned to a query sequence, and renders the results as HTML with optional markup for coloring and layout control.
