MyHits
MyHits annotates and analyzes protein sequences with emphasis on identifying protein domains and sequence signatures.
Key Features:
- Integrated Bioinformatics Tools: Includes MAFFT, Jacop, Dotlet, Jalview, ESTScan, PSI-BLAST, ClustalW, T-Coffee and other analysis tools for comprehensive sequence alignment and annotation.
- Extensive Databases: Provides access to Swiss-Prot, TrEMBL, Prosite, Interpro and locally developed splice variant databases with weekly updates.
- Precomputed Matches ('Hits'): Maintains a precomputed list of matches between submitted sequences and motif databases, updated incrementally.
- Graphical Representations: Generates graphical views of pairwise and multiple sequence alignments with annotated features.
- Separation of Database Engine: Uses a separated HitKeeper database engine distinct from the web interface to improve performance and scalability.
Scientific Applications:
- Protein Function Prediction: Supports annotation of domains and motifs to inform protein function inference.
- Structural Analysis: Assists structural interpretation through domain annotation and alignment-based comparisons.
- Evolutionary Studies: Enables analysis of evolutionary relationships via multiple sequence alignments and conserved signature detection.
- Motif and Interaction Insights: Facilitates identification of functional motifs and generation of hypotheses about protein interactions.
Methodology:
Sequence analysis employs MAFFT, Jacop, Dotlet, Jalview, ESTScan, PSI-BLAST, ClustalW and T-Coffee; precomputed matches to motif databases are maintained incrementally; the HitKeeper database engine is separated from the web interface.
