ncEP

ncEP compiles a curated repository of experimentally validated proteins and peptides encoded by non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs, circRNAs, pri-miRNAs) to support research into ncRNA translation and function.

Key Features:

  • Curated entries: ncEP contains 80 entries comprising 74 proteins or peptides encoded by various ncRNAs, including 22 lncRNAs, 11 circRNAs, 9 pri-miRNAs, and 37 other ncRNAs across 18 species.
  • Experimental validation: The database focuses on low-throughput experimentally validated (LTEV) proteins or peptides identified from over 50 published articles selected from more than 2,000 candidate studies.
  • Comprehensive annotation: Each entry records protein or peptide names, sequences, species, genomic locations, tissues or cell lines, experimental methods, and data sources.

Scientific Applications:

  • Investigating physiological and pathological roles: Enables studies of how ncRNA-encoded proteins or peptides contribute to cellular functions and disease mechanisms.
  • Elucidating ncRNA translation: Supports research into the translation processes associated with lncRNAs, circRNAs, and pri-miRNAs.
  • Reference for experimental validation: Serves as a curated reference set of LTEV ncRNA-encoded proteins and peptides for experimental and comparative analyses.

Methodology:

Data were collected by systematically reviewing published articles to identify experimentally validated instances of ncRNA-encoded proteins or peptides, and entries were curated manually.
