NeuronCyto II
NeuronCyto II performs automatic quantification of neuronal morphology to assign neurites to somata accurately and extract neurite metrics for neurobiology research.
Key Features:
- Automated quantification: Automates measurement of neurite number, length, branching, and morphological complexity from microscopy images.
- Crossover resolution using directed graph theory: Resolves neurite-to-soma assignment in intersecting or overlapping neurites (the "crossover" problem) using directed graph theory to improve assignment accuracy.
- High-throughput and 4D imaging support: Operates on large image datasets including High Throughput Screening (HTS) and 4D time-lapse imaging for batch morphological analyses.
- Quantitative feature extraction: Produces numerical morphological features suitable for statistical analysis and downstream processing.
Scientific Applications:
- Neuronal morphology analysis: Enables quantitative characterization of neurite architecture to study neuronal development and connectivity.
- High-throughput phenotyping: Supports large-scale screening and time-resolved analyses in HTS and 4D experiments.
- Neurodegeneration and drug discovery: Facilitates assessment of structural changes in models of neurodegenerative disease and evaluation of compound effects.
Methodology:
Implements directed graph theory to resolve neurite crossovers and assign neurites to corresponding cell bodies.
