NOWinBRAIN
NOWinBRAIN provides a repository of high-resolution 3D reconstructed images of the living human brain and head-neck anatomy for detailed neuroanatomic visualization and analysis.
Key Features:
- Data Source and Imaging Techniques: Constructed from data derived from 3/7 Tesla MRI and high-resolution CT scans.
- Hierarchical Organization: Organized into 444 albums and sub-albums containing 5,156 images.
- Standardized Views and Presentation Modes: Offers six standard views (anterior, left, posterior, right, superior, inferior) with consistent brain size and presentation modes: non-parcellated unlabeled, parcellated unlabeled, parcellated labeled, and arbitrary views.
- Spatially Co-Registered Image Sequences: Includes appearance and context spatially co-registered image sequences that simulate image layers for dynamic visualization.
- Multi-Tissue Class Galleries: Contains galleries organized into 26 primary tissue classes and 199 sub-classes.
- Unique Image Naming Syntax: Employs a distinctive image naming syntax enabling searches based on image names.
- Color-Coded Neuroanatomic Content: Applies color coding to neuroanatomic structures to enhance visualization and learning.
Scientific Applications:
- Neuroscientific Research: Facilitates studies of brain anatomy, function, and pathology using high-resolution 3D reconstructions.
- Medical Education: Supports teaching and learning of neuroanatomy through labeled and parcellated visualizations.
- Clinical Diagnostics and Planning: Provides detailed anatomical references to assist clinical diagnosis and surgical planning.
Methodology:
3D reconstruction from 3/7 Tesla MRI and high-resolution CT scans; spatial co-registration producing appearance and context image sequences; parcellation and labeling into tissue classes and sub-classes; application of a unique image naming syntax and color coding.
