Ocean-Barcode-Atlas

Ocean-Barcode-Atlas provides exploration and analysis of marine biodiversity and biogeography using large-scale DNA metabarcoding datasets and associated environmental variables.

Key Features:

  • Dynamic Visualization: Enables threshold adjustment and displays barcode-based taxon occurrence and abundance in environmental context including temperature, oxygen levels, and latitude.
  • Ecological and Statistical Analyses: Supports community ecological analyses and sequence-based queries, reporting alpha and beta diversity and generating NMDS plots and boxplots.
  • Comprehensive Data Sets: Includes Tara Oceans eukaryotic 18S-V9 rDNA metabarcodes; Tara Oceans 16S/18S rRNA miTags; and 16S-V4 V5 metabarcodes from the Malaspina-2010 expedition.
  • Scalability: Can incorporate additional prokaryotic or eukaryotic plankton barcode datasets provided they include barcodes and associated environmental data.

Scientific Applications:

  • Community ecological analysis: Enables examination of alpha and beta diversity, community composition, and species distribution using NMDS plots, boxplots, and other ecological summaries.
  • Sequence-based biogeography and environmental association: Supports sequence-based queries and mapping of barcode occurrences to environmental variables to study biogeographic patterns and environmental interactions.

Methodology:

Leverages publication-quality vector graphics to produce ecological analyses and integrates raw reads with contextual environmental variables to assess barcode abundance and diversity in marine environments.
