Omilayers encapsulates SQLite and DuckDB databases to provide data management functionality geared towards frequent and repetitive analytical procedures in multi-omic analysis.

Key Features:

• Database encapsulation: Omilayers encapsulates SQLite and DuckDB embedded databases and exposes a subset of their functionality for multi-omic data management.
• Data handling capabilities: The package supports rapid storage and retrieval of data with varying numbers of features and mixed data-types, reliable and secure database transactions, row and column-wise extension of stored data, and facilitation of data distribution.

Scientific Applications:

• Multi-omic integration: Omilayers addresses the challenges of managing diverse omic datasets that require integration across multiple data types and feature dimensions.

Methodology:

Synthetic data were used to demonstrate the use of Omilayers and compare the performance of SQLite and DuckDB.
