ontoget

ontoget retrieves ontology terms within the EMBOSS suite to provide programmatic access to ontology data for molecular biology annotation and analysis.

Key Features:

  • EMBOSS integration: Integrated into the EMBOSS suite and interoperates with other EMBOSS applications under a consistent command-line interface.
  • Ontology query and retrieval: Provides querying and retrieval of ontology terms for incorporation into annotation and analysis workflows.
  • C programming libraries: Built on EMBOSS’s C programming libraries to enable programmatic extension and integration with other EMBOSS components.

Scientific Applications:

  • Data Annotation: Annotates biological datasets with standardized ontology terms to improve interoperability and reusability.
  • Comparative Genomics: Provides ontology-based terms to support comparisons of gene functions and relationships across species or conditions.
  • Pathway Analysis: Supports mapping of genes to biological pathways using ontology terms to explore cellular interactions.

Methodology:

ontoget leverages EMBOSS’s command-line interface and C programming libraries to query and retrieve ontology terms.
