OPAAS

OPAAS identifies alternative alignments between two protein structures, including non-sequential or non-topological permutations, to enhance protein structure comparison.

Key Features:

  • Alternative Alignment Detection: Detects statistically significant alternative alignments (alignment similarity P-value < 10^-5), including structural permutations at various levels of complexity.

Scientific Applications:

  • Protein Function and Evolution Studies: Reveals structural permutations that inform analyses of functional and evolutionary relationships between proteins.
  • Structural Bioinformatics Research: Provides additional alignment hypotheses beyond single sequential alignments for investigations of protein structure and relationship.

Methodology:

OPAAS employs a novel protein structure comparison (PSC) method capable of identifying alternative alignments with high statistical significance.
