OpenHUSAR

OpenHUSAR performs comprehensive protein annotation by integrating homology-based sequence similarity searches, conserved-domain detection, and secondary-structure annotation to support functional and structural characterization.

Key Features:

  • ProtSweep: Performs homology-based protein annotation using sequence similarity to known homologs in public databases.
  • DomainSweep: Identifies conserved domains within protein sequences to infer potential functions and interactions.
  • 2Dsweep: Annotates secondary-structure elements by predicting arrangements of alpha-helices and beta-sheets from structural data.
  • Integration of methods and databases: Integrates multiple methods and up-to-date public databases to enable combined structural and functional analyses.
  • Workflow automation: Automates retrieval and formatting of results from multiple services.

Scientific Applications:

  • Protein functional annotation: Assigns putative functions and structural features to proteins through homology, domain, and secondary-structure evidence.
  • Domain architecture and interaction prediction: Characterizes domain composition to predict functional modules and potential protein–protein interactions.
  • Secondary-structure analysis: Provides alpha-helix and beta-sheet annotations to inform stability and folding hypotheses.
  • Genomics and proteomics investigations: Supplies annotated protein characteristics for downstream analyses in genomics and proteomics studies.

Methodology:

Performs sequence-similarity (homology) searches against public databases, conserved-domain identification within protein sequences, secondary-structure annotation predicting alpha-helices and beta-sheets from structural data, integration of multiple methods and up-to-date public databases, and automated retrieval and formatting of results from multiple services.
