Plant Genomics and Phenomics Research Data Repository (PGP)
Plant Genomics and Phenomics Research Data Repository (PGP) publishes and archives cross-domain plant research datasets—including plant phenotyping and microscopy image collections, unfinished genomes, genotyping data, morphological plant models, mass spectrometry data, software, and documents—to support standardized sharing, interoperability, and reuse in genomics, phenomics, and molecular plant research.
Key Features:
- Cross-domain data coverage: Publishes image collections from plant phenotyping and microscopy, unfinished genomes, genotyping datasets, morphological plant model visualizations, mass spectrometry data, software, and related documents.
- Infrastructure: Hosted by the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research using the e!DAL software infrastructure and a Hierarchical Storage Management System for archival storage.
- Automated submission and review: Provides a high-automation data submission tool that supports an internal review process and registers core technical metadata with DataCite for citable datasets.
- Programmatic interface: Exposes a programmatic interface for machine access to repository contents and metadata.
- Standard metadata formats: Employs standard metadata formats to enhance interoperability and reusability of datasets.
Scientific Applications:
- Plant diversity characterization: Enables characterization of plant diversity using integrated genomic, phenomic, and molecular datasets.
- Data citation and reuse: Facilitates publication and citation of large or cross-domain datasets to promote reuse in downstream analyses.
- Crop improvement research: Supports research aimed at accelerating yield gains and addressing crop productivity challenges by providing integrated datasets for analysis.
Methodology:
PGP operates on the e!DAL software infrastructure hosted at the Leibniz Institute, uses a Hierarchical Storage Management System for archival, provides a programmatic interface, employs standard metadata formats, automates data submission with an internal review workflow, and registers core technical metadata with DataCite.
