PHESANT
PHESANT performs systematic phenome scans to test associations between a specified trait and continuous, integer, and categorical variables in the UK Biobank and user-defined subsets for large-scale epidemiological analyses.
Key Features:
- Comprehensive association testing: Tests associations between a specified trait and all available continuous, integer, and categorical variables within the UK Biobank or a user-defined subset.
- Rule-based algorithm for test selection: Employs a rule-based algorithm to determine the most appropriate statistical test for each variable based on its characteristics.
- Support for heterogeneous analytical models: Handles heterogeneous analytical models across diverse phenotype types present in epidemiological cohorts.
- Implementation in R: Implemented in the R programming language for statistical analysis.
- D3.js visualization: Uses JavaScript D3.js for visualization of phenome scan results.
- Java-based JSON conversion: Provides accompanying Java code to convert phenome scan results into JSON format.
Scientific Applications:
- Genetic association discovery: Uncovers relationships between genetic variants and a wide range of phenotypic traits.
- Multifactorial disease research: Supports studies into multifactorial diseases and the identification of novel biomarkers.
- Personalized medicine research: Facilitates investigations relevant to personalized medicine across many phenotype types.
- Large-scale epidemiological studies: Enables phenome-wide association analyses in large cohorts such as the UK Biobank.
Methodology:
PHESANT applies a rule-based algorithm to select statistical tests, is implemented in R, uses JavaScript D3.js for visualization, and includes Java code to convert results to JSON.
