piRPheno

piRPheno provides experimentally validated associations between PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) and disease phenotypes to support biomarker discovery, target identification, and precision medicine research.

Key Features:

  • Extensive Data Collection: Contains 9,057 experimentally supported associations between 474 distinct piRNAs and 204 diseases curated from scientific publications.
  • Confidence Scoring System: Assigns a confidence score to each piRNA–disease association that reflects the strength and reliability of the supporting experimental evidence.
  • Clinical Correlations: Provides clinical correlation annotations for associations to indicate potential medical implications.
  • RESTful API Access: Offers a RESTful API for programmatic retrieval and integration with other bioinformatics tools and workflows.

Scientific Applications:

  • Biomarker Discovery: Supports identification of piRNAs as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers through validated piRNA–disease associations.
  • Target Identification for Drug Development: Highlights piRNAs implicated in disease processes to inform potential therapeutic targeting.
  • Precision Medicine: Enables linking piRNA profiles to disease phenotypes to inform personalized treatment strategies.

Methodology:

Associations were extracted via manual curation of scientific literature to capture experimentally validated piRNA–disease links.
