Planet Microbe
Planet Microbe integrates marine 'omics and environmental datasets to enable discovery and contextual analysis of marine microbial communities by linking sequencing data with physical, geological, and geochemical measurements.
Key Features:
- Data Integration: Consolidates canonical marine datasets such as HOT (Habitat Ontology), TARA, and OSD and annotates them with ontology terms to standardize metadata and support FAIR principles.
- Data Packages: Implements data containers called data packages that conform to the Frictionless Data standard for structured exchange of datasets.
- Interconnected 'Omics and Environmental Data: Links each 'omics sample to co-collected biological, physicochemical, and environmental measurements from the same water samples or sampling events to provide environmental context.
Scientific Applications:
- Large-scale oceanic sequencing: Provides access to curated historical and ongoing oceanographic sequencing data to support large-scale surveys.
- Interdisciplinary research: Enables integration of sequencing with physical, geological, and geochemical datasets to support interdisciplinary and collaborative studies of marine systems.
- Metagenomic analysis: Facilitates discovery and comparative analysis of high-quality metagenomic datasets within environmental contexts.
Methodology:
Aggregates and curates datasets from oceanographic efforts, annotates metadata with ontology terms, packages data using the Frictionless Data standard, and links 'omics data to environmental measurements.
