PlantPepDB

PlantPepDB catalogs plant-derived peptides with curated peptide sequences, functional annotations, physicochemical properties, and tertiary-structure information for use in therapeutic and structural-biology research.

Key Features:

  • Manually Curated Entries: Each entry contains the peptide sequence, functional attributes, source organism, physicochemical properties, and tertiary-structure information.
  • Validation Levels: Peptides are classified by evidence: 2,821 experimentally validated at the protein level, 458 with experimental evidence at the transcript level, 530 predicted, and 39 inferred from homology.
  • Physicochemical Properties and Tertiary Structure: Entries include physicochemical parameters and tertiary-structure data to support structure–function and therapeutic-potential analyses.
  • Functional Diversity: Curation and merging of duplicate data from literature and existing databases indicate many peptides exhibit multiple properties beyond their initially reported functions.
  • Categorization: Peptides are classified into nine activity-based categories with further subcategory annotations.

Scientific Applications:

  • Therapeutic Research: The combination of experimentally validated, transcript-evidence, predicted, and homology-inferred peptides supports identification and evaluation of plant peptides for therapeutic development.
  • Structural Biology and Bioinformatics: Sequence, physicochemical, and tertiary-structure data support structural analyses, peptide modeling, and bioinformatics investigations.

Methodology:

Data were manually curated from multiple literature and database sources and integrated with physicochemical properties, tertiary-structure annotations, and a validation-level classification.
