PLAViMoP database

PLAViMoP database provides annotated point-light and motion-capture sequences for kinematic analysis and action-recognition research.

Key Features:

  • Comprehensive Dataset: Includes diverse categories such as everyday global movements, fine-motor control activities, sports-related motions, facial expressions, interpersonal interactions, and robotic movements.
  • Detailed Annotations: Each sequence is annotated with type of movement, movement label, sex of the actor, and age of the actor.
  • Assessment and Validation: Sequences were assessed with mean scores provided for each point-light display, comparative analyses across sequence categories, and contextualization within existing literature.

Scientific Applications:

  • Cognitive Science: Investigates perception and interpretation of kinematic information to inform theories of visual cognition and social perception.
  • Robotics and AI: Supports development and evaluation of algorithms for action recognition and replication using human and robotic movement data.
  • Sports Science: Analyzes sports-related motions to study biomechanics and athletic performance.
  • Human-Computer Interaction (HCI): Provides natural movement and expression data relevant to interaction and behavior modeling in HCI research.

Methodology:

Sequences were captured using advanced 3D motion capture technology; assessment included quantitative evaluations and qualitative comparisons with mean scores reported per point-light display.
