Protegen

Protegen curates, stores, and analyzes protective antigens to support vaccine development, disease diagnosis, and the study of host immunity.

Key Features:

  • Data Curation: Curates basic antigen information and experimental evidence from scientific literature.
  • Bioinformatics Analysis: Automatically extracts gene and protein information including DNA and protein sequences and COG classifications using internally developed scripts, and computes antigen features such as protein weight, isoelectric point (pI), and subcellular localization of bacterial proteins.

Scientific Applications:

  • Vaccine Development: Supports identification and analysis of protective antigens relevant to vaccine design.
  • Disease Diagnosis: Provides antigen data and features that can inform diagnostic marker selection.
  • Host Immunity Studies: Enables analysis of protective antigens for studying host immune responses.

Methodology:

Automatically extracts gene and protein information (DNA and protein sequences, COG classifications) using internally developed scripts, computes protein weight, isoelectric point (pI), and bacterial subcellular localization, stores data in the Vaccine Ontology (VO) in OWL format, and supports export to FASTA and Excel files.
