The Human Protein Atlas
The Human Protein Atlas maps protein expression and spatial localization across human tissues and cells by integrating quantitative transcriptomics with immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays and confocal microscopy to support studies of proteome variation and disease-related protein dynamics.
Key Features:
- Integrated omics: Combines quantitative transcriptomics with immunohistochemistry (IHC) on tissue microarrays and confocal microscopy for integrated molecular and spatial data.
- Quantitative transcriptomics: Provides quantitative transcriptomics measurements at tissue and organ levels across 32 tissues and organs.
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Generates IHC-based protein detection and localization across tissue microarrays.
- Single-cell spatial localization: Enables spatial localization of proteins down to the single-cell level.
- Proteome coverage: Includes proteome data across 32 tissues/organs with detection of over 90% of putative protein-coding genes.
- Imaging modalities: Provides high-resolution IHC and confocal microscopy images for normal human tissues, cancer cells, and cell lines.
- Proteome subsets: Annotates the human secretome, membrane proteome, druggable proteome, cancer proteome, and metabolic functions.
Scientific Applications:
- Tissue proteome mapping: Characterizing proteome variation across tissues and organs.
- Spatial proteomics: Investigating protein localization at subcellular and single-cell resolution in normal and disease contexts.
- Cancer research: Supporting investigation of the cancer proteome and potential therapeutic targets.
- Disease biology: Supporting basic biological research and clinical investigations into disease pathology and protein dynamics in health and disease.
- Proteome subset analysis: Enabling exploration of the human secretome, membrane proteome, and druggable proteome.
Methodology:
Combines quantitative transcriptomics at tissue and organ levels with immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays and confocal microscopy to produce integrated molecular and spatial protein data at single-cell resolution.
