PyAtomDB

PyAtomDB provides access to the AtomDB atomic database and performs collisional‑radiative modeling and X‑ray/EUV spectrum generation for optically thin, hot astrophysical plasmas.

Key Features:

  • AtomDB access: Direct access to the AtomDB atomic database for atomic rates and spectral line data used in modeling.
  • Collisional‑Radiative Modeling: Performs collisional‑radiative model calculations for optically thin, hot plasmas.
  • apec spectrum generation: Uses and provides open access to the apec code to generate AtomDB spectra.
  • Integration with spectral fitting codes: Interfaces with XSPEC and Sherpa for incorporation of AtomDB data into spectral fitting workflows.
  • Extensibility: Extensible architecture that permits development of new models and custom analytical tools.
  • Non‑Maxwellian and Charge‑Exchange models: Implements kappa models for non‑Maxwellian plasmas and the ACX model for charge‑exchange plasmas.
  • Uncertainty Analysis: Includes a module to estimate sensitivity of emission lines and diagnostic line ratios to uncertainties in atomic data.
  • Ion‑specific modeling: Provides detailed modeling capabilities for Fe L‑shell ions and He‑like ions.

Scientific Applications:

  • X‑ray and EUV spectral modeling: Model X‑ray and EUV emission from optically thin, hot astrophysical plasmas.
  • Plasma diagnostics with Fe L‑shell and He‑like ions: Use Fe L‑shell and He‑like ion lines for diagnostic analyses of plasma properties and processes.
  • Non‑equilibrium and charge‑exchange studies: Investigate non‑Maxwellian electron distributions (kappa) and charge‑exchange emission using the ACX model.
  • Astrophysical environment analysis: Apply models to study supernova remnants, galaxy clusters, and active galactic nuclei.

Methodology:

Performs collisional‑radiative model calculations and spectrum generation using AtomDB data and the apec code; implements kappa and ACX models; and computes sensitivity of emission lines and diagnostic line ratios to atomic data uncertainties.
