Q-VAT

Q-VAT quantifies vascular networks in large two-dimensional whole tissue section images to enable automated morphological analysis of macro- and microvasculature.

Key Features:

  • Fiji (ImageJ) integration: Operates within the Fiji (ImageJ) environment for image analysis workflows.
  • Large image processing: Processes large two-dimensional whole tissue section images through a tile-wise approach to accommodate extensive samples.
  • Diameter-based vessel classification: Differentiates vessel measurements by diameter to enable separate quantification of macro- and microvasculature.
  • Multi-channel overlap quantification: Analyzes double- and triple-stained slides and quantifies the percentage of vessels with overlapping stains.
  • Morphological read-outs: Extracts quantitative morphological metrics from microscopy images of whole-mount immuno-stained sections.
  • Automated quantification: Provides automated analysis and quantification of vascular features across entire tissue sections.

Scientific Applications:

  • Vascular morphology analysis: Quantitative assessment of vascular structure and morphology in microscopy images.
  • Macro- vs microvasculature studies: Comparative analysis of large and small vessel compartments within a single tissue section.
  • Multi-marker vascular characterization: Evaluation of colocalization and overlap between multiple vascular markers on double- or triple-stained slides.
  • Whole-tissue mouse studies: Morphological analysis of vasculature in whole-mount immuno-stained sections from mouse tissues.

Methodology:

Tile-wise processing of large 2D whole-tissue images in Fiji (ImageJ), diameter-based differentiation of vessels, analysis of double- and triple-stained slides with quantification of percent overlap, and automated extraction of morphological read-outs from whole-mount immuno-stained mouse tissue images.
