R2DT (EBI)

R2DT (EBI) generates standardized two-dimensional RNA secondary structure diagrams to represent and compare non-coding RNA (ncRNA) structural motifs.

Key Features:

  • Template library: A comprehensive collection of 3,647 templates representing the majority of known structured RNAs is used to produce consistent 2D layouts.
  • Large-scale application: Applied to ncRNA sequences from the RNAcentral database to produce over 13 million diagrams, creating a very large dataset of RNA 2D structures.
  • Community-driven expansion: The framework is designed to support contributions that expand the template collection.

Scientific Applications:

  • ncRNA structural analysis: Provides standardized visualizations to support interpretation of structure–function relationships in ncRNAs.
  • Comparative structural studies: Enables consistent comparison of 2D structures across different RNA molecules.
  • Large-scale annotation and dataset generation: Facilitates generation and analysis of extensive RNA 2D structure datasets (e.g., the >13 million diagrams from RNAcentral).

Methodology:

R2DT leverages an extensive library of 3,647 2D templates to predict and render standardized RNA secondary structure diagrams that reflect known structural motifs.
