RhythmicDB

RhythmicDB catalogs circadian (≈24-hour) and ultradian (frequencies shorter than 24 hours) transcripts across a kingdom-wide range of species to provide a curated resource for analyzing time-dependent gene expression.

Key Features:

  • Extensive Data Collection: Compiles data from numerous high-throughput experiments assessing time-dependent gene expression across multiple cell types and species.
  • Manual Curation and Rhythmicity Analysis: Includes manually curated transcripts that are analyzed for rhythmicity using the BioCycle and MetaCycle software packages.
  • Cross-Species Coverage: Encompasses a kingdom-wide range of species to enable comparisons of circadian and ultradian expression patterns and their evolutionary heterogeneity.

Scientific Applications:

  • Mechanistic studies: Investigate molecular mechanisms underlying circadian and ultradian rhythms by examining rhythmic transcripts.
  • Physiological and behavioral impact analyses: Explore how time-dependent gene expression influences physiological processes and behaviors across species.
  • Comparative evolutionary studies: Conduct cross-species comparisons to assess evolutionary patterns and heterogeneity of molecular rhythms.

Methodology:

Existing high-throughput experimental data were retrieved, manually curated, and analyzed using BioCycle and MetaCycle to detect circadian and ultradian transcripts.
