RNAsselem

RNAsselem analyzes RNA secondary structure elements in viral genomes, enabling the recognition of common secondary structure patterns and the generation of descriptive statistics for these structural elements to investigate viral function and evolution.

Key Features:

  • Pattern Recognition: Recognizes common RNA secondary structure patterns including hairpin loops, internal loops, multifurcations, external loops, bulges, stems, and pseudoknots.
  • Descriptive Statistics: Generates descriptive statistics for RNA secondary structure elements.
  • Property Extraction: Provides basic properties of identified structural elements.
  • Viral Genome Analysis: Analyzes complete viral genome secondary structures collected from the literature.

Scientific Applications:

  • Viral Function Investigation: Gains insights into viral function through analysis of RNA secondary structure elements.
  • Viral Evolution Studies: Investigates the role of RNA secondary structure in virus evolution.
  • Structural Element Characterization: Characterizes the abundance and diversity of RNA secondary structure elements across RNA viruses.

Methodology:

RNAsselem is implemented as a Python package that analyzes RNA secondary structures of complete viral genomes.
